Baobab Oil Benefits for Skin and Hair (and How to Actually Use It)

Some of our oils you could technically eat. This isn’t one of them. Baobab oil is one of our external-use-only oils, made for your skin and hair, and it’s quietly one of the most useful bottles we sell.

First, the important bit: it’s pronounced bay-uh-bab. Say it once out loud and it sticks.

Skin Gourmet Baobab Oil, pure cold-pressed Adansonia digitata seed oil, handmade in Ghana

What baobab oil actually is

Our baobab oil is one ingredient. Pure Adansonia digitata seed oil, virgin and cold pressed, nothing else added. The Adansonia is the baobab tree, and the oil is pressed from its seeds. Cold pressing keeps it close to how it comes out of the seed, so heat never strips out the good stuff.

It’s light. It sinks in instead of sitting on top, which is why people who normally avoid face oils tend to get on with this one.

What it does for your skin

Baobab oil is naturally rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidant compounds. Those support your skin barrier, and a well-supported barrier is skin that looks smoother and more resilient over time. That’s a big part of what people notice as firmer-looking skin.

It also helps even things out. When an oil calms dryness and the look of irritation, uneven tone and rough texture start to look less obvious. You get an even, healthy finish without the grease.

On marks and scars, the honest version: dry, tight skin makes marks look sharper. Keeping the area comfortable and supple softens how noticeable they look over time. Consistency does the work here, not a single application.

What it does for your hair

On hair it behaves like a light conditioning oil. Smooth a little through your lengths and ends for softness and shine, without that heavy, weighed-down feeling. It’s good on braids and twists too.

It suits every skin type, honestly

Because it’s light and you control how much you use, baobab works across skin types. Dry skin can go in freely. Oily or combination skin can use a few drops on the areas that actually get dry. Put it on damp skin and it absorbs faster.

How to use it

Warm two or three drops between your palms and press it into damp skin as a face oil. Use it straight after a shower as a body oil for a smooth glow. Massage a little into dry patches and marks regularly. Run a small amount through your hair. It also mixes happily into your lotion, conditioner, or shampoo if you’d rather boost what you already use. One bottle, a lot of jobs.

One thing worth knowing: in cooler weather the oil can turn thicker and go lighter in colour. That’s not a fault. It’s what a 100% natural oil with nothing added does when it gets cold. Warm the bottle in your hands and it’s back to normal. Keep it closed, store it somewhere cool and dry away from water, and refrigerate it if you want it to last.

Ready to try it

Baobab oil is external use only, handmade in Ghana, and it starts at GHS 170 in a 50ml or a larger 250ml bottle. If you’re building out an oil shelf, it sits nicely next to the rest of our oils.

Babe, say it with me: bay-uh-bab.
